Poetry Aloud 2018

Maith sibh a Lauryn agus a Shionainn as páirt a ghlacadh sa chomórtas "Poetry Aloud" i Leabharlann Náisiúnta na hÉireann.  Dúirt an bheirt scoláirí dán Shéamais Heaney "Postscript" le brí agus le mothúcháin.  Dá ndara dánta, nuair a bhí rogha pearsanta ag na hiomaitheoirí, roghnaigh Sionainn "The Eagle" le Michael Sweeney agus roghnaigh Lauryn "The Child Dying" by Edwin Muir.

Well done to Lauryn and Sionainn who participated in the Poetry Ireland "Poetry Aloud" competition in the National Library of Ireland.  Both students recited moving versions of Seamus Heaney's poem "Postscript".  For their second poems, where competitors have a personal choice, Sionainn chose "The Eagle" by Michael Sweeney and Lauryn chose "The Child Dying" by Edwin Muir.

Bhí na scoláirí ildánacha ó Choláiste Lú ar an stáitse arís le déanaí ar an 22 Márta ag cur a n-Oíche Cheoil ar siúl. Smaoinigh an Chomhairle na dTuistí ar an ócáid ar dtús mar ócáid tiomsaithe airgid agus an chéad shárthaispeántas cheoil taobh amuigh den scoil. Chaith scoláirí ón gcéad go dtí an cúigiú bliain cúpla seachtain ag cleachtadh don ócáid ag ullmhú gach rud ó cheol traidisiúnta go dtí the Cranberries. Bhí an Oíche Cheoil ar siúl sa suíomh draíochtach an Oriel Centre/Sean-Ghaol le hIníon Nic Eochaidh ag feidhmniú mar MC don oíche.

The talented students of Coláiste Lú took to the stage once again on the 22nd March presenting their Oíche Cheoil. The brain child of the Comhairle na dTuistí (Parent’s Council) this event was both a school fundraiser and the school’s  very first after-hours musical showcase. Students from first to fifth year spent many weeks rehearsing for the event with Iníon Ní Channan which featured everything from trad to the Cranberries. The Oíche Cheoil took place in the magically intimate setting of the Oriel Centre (Sean-Ghaol) with Iníon Nic Eochaidh expertly acting as MC for the night.
